Frank's major musical influences include Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey and Ian Gillan and he enjoys listening to a wide variety of different music from the gutteral roots-blues of Robert Johnson and Blind Willie Johnson, through the folk-ier work of Simon & Garfunkel, Tim Buckley and Fairport convention, to the energetic, exuberant (and, it must be said, sometimes self-indulgent :P) rock of the likes of Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. Although not having any formal training, Frank has been singing in bands for several years.

After forming a band on piano whilst at school, Frank quickly moved to vocals. Through a string of shifting line-ups and styles (and names ... like 'Livid' and 'Agent Orinj') this band eventually evolved into 'Not The Cowbell', a bluesy-rock based covers band. 'Cowbell played many classic rock standards in their own style and, although a great platform for developing his vocal style and stage performance, Frank ultimately found playing other people's music creatively frustrating.

Not The Cowbell informally disbanded in 2003 with the departure of Frank and their then bassist, Craig Harrison, for university in other parts of the country. However, they did reform for one-off local performances and it was on one such occasion that Frank met Bernie who invited him to join the band he was putting together to record and perform his late friend's songs. This was hardly an opportunity to be turned down and Frank soon began learning the lyrics and music that George Frew and Bernie had written. Since then he has played many gigs with them and recorded some of the songs written by George on 'The Rose Dies, The Thorn Survives'.
