The presentation on 13th November 2005 at the Green Dragon Public House, Bungay of a £1000 cheque to Cancer Research – donations raised due to a long friendship between the late George Frew and Bernie Lines resulted in a Sunday afternoon of music not to have been missed!
The main attraction was the ‘Frank Morrow Band’: Frank Morrow, vocals; Bernie Lines, lead guitar & backing vocals; Andy Bye, bass guitar & backing vocals and Paul Scoggins, drums. From the start the band created a cracking pace with ‘Take me with You’, which was not to let up throughout the one hour set, sometimes going in unexpected directions – for example, some interesting ‘breaks’ on ‘Still got my Reasons’
Frank Morrow’s superb vocals belie his 21 years! I’m sure he will go far, while Bernie and Andy’s backing vocals ideally complemented Frank’s vocal lines on many songs. Bernie Lines well constructed and exciting guitar solos were a joy, while Andy Bye’s bass and Paul Scoggins drums created one of the tightest rhythm sections I’ve heard for a long time, the precision ‘shots’ emanating from Paul’s ‘Piccolo’ snare drum would have definitely been heard by the Herons in the water meadows!
It was very refreshing to hear a complete set of interesting and exciting original material, - all the songs having been written by Bernie, with some of the lyrics by the late George Frew. All in all, a fine rock band showing a focussed approach to composition, arrangement and delivery.
To round off the session the inimitable Kenny Millie (vocals/guitar), played a blues set with all the style and feeling we would expect from an experienced musician dedicated to his music. With him were also three excellent players: Bernie Elliot, lead guitar; Paddy Shaw, bass guitar and Tim Summerson, harmonica.
A great afternoon of music – encore!
