I started, or rather tried, to play a biscuit tin at the age of 3, progessing to a snare drum at 4. Then my lovely parents got me my first kit around the age of 8 (luckily we had a cellar for me to practise in!).
My first band were 'The Purple Bow Ties' based in Beccles. We went on to play Gunton Hall Holiday Camp two nights a week at the tender age of 10. I remember our pay was a free burger and a swim in the pool while our 'roadies' (mums and dads) had a drink and a chat.
From then bands came and went meaning I met up with a lot of people who like myself are still playing. I eventually ended up with 'Carnival' doing holiday camps again 4-5 nights a week. This I believe helped my playing by doing strict tempo across the spectrum to heavy rock, and also backing the odd caberet act.
Very tired and in need of a rest the band finished after about 3 years. Now along comes my lovely wife Diane for me to practise my rhythm with!
From then on other bands came along such as 'Zenana' with Richard Taylor, 'Shere Khan' with Monty and 'Hot or Wot' with Ken Millie. Then on to 'The Planks' working hard doing RAF stations and local gigs.
In between all this we found time to be blessed with our children, Eleanor and Adam.
After 'The Planks' I went back to 'Hot or Wot' then after a failed project I took a rest. I started get back into playing but a bad virus in 2000 put me in hospital messing my joints up.
After a while I started with a new band, 'The Undecided', which because of personnel changes lasted a number of years with me being in hospital again for surgery to a hip joint. After nearly a year off back to the band. That is, until a phone call from Bernie ...
The future starts now! I am looking forward to the new challenges and playing with a band of very good musicians. I would like to thank everyone for support and guidance over the years and Diane for putting up with the tapping for the last 24 years.
